A quick look at the first aftermarket battery replacement for the Olympus OMD E-M5. These batteries are from ebay and contain no charging controller chip meaning they will not charge on the OEM charger. Be sure to get the the additional charger when using theses batteries.

Received mine yesterday. the generic battery dsn't charge on the original charger

The Original battery does charge perfectly on the generic charger (and faster!), gets a green light when charged. The generic charger is much more handy: plugs in without a wire; Why didn't Olympus think of that? Lifetime seems equal to me. battery indicator works normal.

conclusion: (unless it turns out the other way after a couple of weeks intense using) great product at a bargain price and free overseas shipping

Yeah beats me why Olympus has a cord on the charger but I hope with the next OMD camera they ship a charger with it thats free of cords.

So far I like the batteries quite well. Had no problem with them and if it turns out in the future that they don't hold a charge I'll probably get more generics. The price is really good.

"They" are saying that the battery indicator does not work with these third party batteries, they read full until they die. Let us know what happens when you run one down.

Ran one down and the battery meter worked as normal. So far the quality for the price is great.

Does camera have a charging port so you can charge it directly rather than take the battery out? I find not having one is extremely frustrating especially with the extra grip added on.

With the cord, they make only one charger for different country and the cord change depends on the plug of the country you're in. With the type of charger without cord is a pain to plug in country like France or Germany.

I noticed you have the 17mm f/2.8 lens on the OMD, i was debating whether to get that one (at a much better price) or finally cheat on my Oly and get the Pana-Lumix 20mm, which is a couple hundred more, but is apparently a lot faster at f/1.7, better in low light and what not. Just wondering what you think, or anyone else reading this comment, for that matter.

I'm so jelly of you guys having the OMD :( *kicks dirt* At least I can save for the OMD and it be realistic instead of redonkeulus like the xpro 1. My first camera was the Olympus D600L 1.4 megapixel slr. Funny I find myself wanting to get graduate from my little p&s fuji to another olympus. Good times!
