(June2010) The Lumbee Tribal Chairman appeared at the Lumbee Regional Development Association's (LRDA) 2010 Elder's Luncheon on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the Southeastern Farmers Market in Lumberton, NC.
"May I take this opportunity to thank the Tribal Chairman, Mr. Purnell Swett for allowing the council members to help us make this luncheon successful," stated LRDA Chairman of Board of Directors Bobby Locklear.
Following Mr. Locklear's opening remarks the Tribal Chairman of the Lumbee Tribal bestowed his welcome to the elders, "good afternoon and welcome to the Elder's Luncheon," began Tribal Chairman Purnell Swett, "it is such a privilege to stand before such a fine looking group in celebration of who you are as an Elder of this great tribe."
Lunch was then catered by Fullers BBQ and the attendees enjoyed special native flute music while eating their lunch. Former Councilman Mr. Welford Clark also led in special entertainment by introducing the Elder's Choir and their songs. Mr. Willie Lowry accompanied the choir on guitar, a man who has written and composed over 200 songs according to Mr. Welford Clark. Trailing the Elder's Choir Miss North Carolina Senior Citizen's Coalition Princess Miss Mollie Jacobs entertained the crowd with her rendition of "I'm having the Time of My Life."
After all entertainment and commentary, LRDA Director James Hardin closed out the event by saying, "we hope that you are enjoying all the activities during Lumbee Homecoming but most importantly being safe, we thank each and every one of you for coming out today." During and after the luncheon there was a petition being offered by the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina to the attendees to sign representing their support of the Lumbee Recognition Bill, symbolizing a unified motion to Congress.
