  • @missoliviajean1 No it's not a micro expression.

  • I think being able to read ppl's emotions on their faces is more like an extension of Emotional Intelligence (Wayne Payne, Greenspan, Salovey and Mayer, Daniel Goleman), though it can find applications in lie detection. Lie detection seems to be another sub-branch of social psychology itself => it is the psyche, nature and the myriad of reasons behind any lie that seems more impt, not just whether a person is lying or not.

  • Thumbs up if you read 'Blink' and loved Dr. Paul Ekman's research in universal facial expressions.

    Gosh I love Psychology!!

  • My sister in law lies all the time. I realised when she lies or is bluffing one of her lies, she always pushed her chin forward and pouts as in the film.

  • Why I do understand everything, but I can't talk well, and read text in english... :/

By the way, Ekman is a genius.

  • its funny cuz it was a black guy who took the money

As Dr. Ekman has said; By jumping to conclusions you run the risk of making Othello's error. In which he killed Desdemona as she showed him fear. He thought it was the fear of being caught in the act of a betrayal, but in fact it was the fear of being disbelieved. Emotions and Micro-expressions tell us their thoughts and feelings, but they do not tell us their source. You have to find out the source of the emotion and put it all together without being presumptuous.

  • @missoliviajean1 No, it is not a microexpression. It's a mismatched emblem.

His book "Tellies Lies" is great by the way. It's organized a bit like a textbook, but it explains body language in a very organized way. I learned more about body language from his book than any other book. It's amazing what you can see by becoming good at this stuff.

  • @JonahTorn I think your information is very valid and should be considered by people trying to detect lies and the truth! Although, microexpressions are universal so when certain questions are asked by people and they react the way that most would when lying it's hard to blame it on TS. If the same spasms were occuring after every question asked I think one would pick up on it as the wrong emotion.

  • Tourette Syndrome causes by tics both subtle and dramatic expressions where ever there are muscles. Many prople with Tourette Syndrome are undiagnosed and have subtle tics. Sometimes I have muscle spams caused by TS (short for Tourette Syndrome) all over my body. I've had one side of my face flex side to side from the top to bottom & even my eyelids flexed side to side. It has been estimated that TS is in 1% of the population with many undiagnosed. What does that indicate about this reasearch?
