I really doubt he got arrested as a publicity stunt. What is more, Thailand really can be more democratic. They HAD mature democratic institutions. It seems unfortunate the Thai elite won't allow those institutions , as well as democratic social norms to fully develop. The country is not like its Southeast Asian neighbors at all. I believe it really is possible for democracy and moderate and sane capitalism to flourish there.

He is a brave man who stood up to Thailands repressive Lese Majeste laws. His nationality is not particularly relevant because there are intelligent brave Thais who have also stood up against it.
