Jury duty is WAY TOO EASY To get out of - and if I could count every time I have heard someone say that they don't vote because of jury duty - I would guess it is about 1%

you can only talk for so long before people stop listneing - so to devote any time to 1% of theproblem would take away from the other 99% - see?

Oh I didnt make that claim that non-voters are stupid. I just say that in Aus system the stupid and misinformed have to vote. By and large I think that 2/3rds of US non-voters are intelligent human beings and perhaps i might actually be higher.

Objection to voting is all well and good but the moral power doesnt translate into political success. As cicero put it force will always best lack of force- Indirectly thinking that the government will change because you make the moral stand is basic

Yes - I have never been in favor of fines - but I disagree with your premise that the non-voters are stupid - I think the FEW who DO vote are stupid and a LOT of those non-voters have it figured out - they don't vote because they KNOW what is going on and they don't want to be part of greed and murder - the problem is - their lack of participation means we get stuck with chronic BAD gov't.

Australia has the answer to voter turn out. For us voting is compulsory, once your 18 you MUST register and they find you and fine you (heavily) if you dont. There are ways of getting out of it but thats less than 2 percent of population (criminals serving for serious crimes cant vote until after they get out).

But... For the love of God America dont make voting compulsory. You might have the problem of no one voting. We have the problem of stupid people voting. And ours is far worse
