I am currently taking a nutritional supplement with this as an ingredient. I've been googling it and found that its good to make fires...but is inedible for humans. I am not wondering why the heck the supplement manufacturer uses it for an ingredient.
Don't worry, it is not strickly speaking inedible. It would be listed inedible in your online guides because it is so woody. It's used as a styptic, is diuretic and has anti-bacterial and anti-viral qualities. Also, polysaccharides in the mushroom have anti-tumor properties. In short, your health is not in jeopardy.
