The great man in his early ska days. The backing singers might be The Maytals, who were also with Beverley's at this time. I don't think The Aces had been assembled yet.
Ten years later a version of this song became a hit for The Starlights.

  • Ska, ska, ska!

  • @Dragonrdh Leslie Kong owned the "Beverly's" label and related businesses. Yes that is him at 1:10

  • @bostonstump ,the maytals where never the cherry pies, miss credits!!!!!...and this song is called salery.,and another thing, the backing band is baba bookes band, minus baba on trumpet, funny????,well thats why i love ska, check out a chune by d.dekker and the maytals called "how will the poor survive",you will hear the maytals, but not d.dekker, funny!!!!!!,not realy, miss credits, and the cherry pies where a duo,as the maytals where a trio PEACE OUT,lmfao

  • Love at first listen for Desmond Dekker.First time I heard this though,I thought the chorus was "sodomy" instead of "soldering".

  • Defintely not the Maytals but they did back him on others. Search for Dekker Jeserine and King of Ska (sounds like just Toots and a woman)

I think it is late enough for it to be the Aces, but I can't say for sure it is.

That is Leslie Kong at 1:10

  • maytals backed a few early dekker recordings as the cherry pies.

  • @UltimateSkaFan He's a Jamaican of Chinese descent. Jamaica has the largest Chinese pop in the Carib. And an even larger Afro/Chinese pop. Naomi Campbel who's fathers last name is Ming. Tyson Beckford, Micheal Lee Chin, Stacey Anne Chin etc. The list is endless just google Chinese/Jamaicans.

  • Byron Lee? (Dragonaires) He was a pioneer in Ska as I grew up in Jamaica. I could be wrong...
