Haven't posted a video in awhile so this is just a short clip...sorry for the bad angles. We were sharing the arena with a beginner doing patterns in the center so I was trying to stay out of her way, and the sun was shining too brightly for me to put the camera on the other side where I had more space.

I like to think we're making progress, but I've decided I am not capable of making that decision...ha. His jog is more collected than it used to be but still not as slow as I would like (and I'm not sure he CAN go much slower...he's got a naturally big stride). His lope is better for the most part...really not as good here as it is on the rail, but he hates to work circles/lope across the center. Clearly he will do it well enough for HMS or something like that, but he doesn't hold a pleasure lope as well unless he is on the rail. He is holding himself together at the shows a little better, though.

  • Im not the most educated on western pleasure. but dont judges like for the gait to be slow yet natural?

  • @jumping4free Watch a tough pleasure class...a natural WP gait isn't the same as the "natural" gait for a horse that isn't bred for it. They do naturally move very slowly with that same rocking motion. Zip still needs to improve some things--namely slowing down the jog and keeping it collected yet with impulsion, and rocking back over his hindquarters at the lope (he does it on the rail, but if you watch him cross through the middle, he drags his hind legs a bit...not collected).

  • I think he's perfect xD

  • @hanoverianjumpers101 haha....thanks ;)

  • @jumpthemoon15 AH! I see. Sort of. lol. Sorry I dont do WP nor do i have a WP horse. I wouldnt even know where to begin to train a WP horse. . I typically barrel race and I make my barrel horse doe EP and hunt seat classes to make him where he wont get gate sour. Prancing is ok. Freaking out is not.
