Sal Rosselli, interim President, National Union of Healthcare Workers, predicts its victory will help transform the healthcare labor movement into a democratic movement run by workers.
Now, NUHW acknowledges facing bankruptcy as they have been ordered by a Federal Court to pay back $1.57 million of what they illegally took from SEIU-UHW members. But NUHW is trying to back out of their obligation to repay us. They filed a motion in Federal Court asking to defer payment, stating that they do not have the resources and could face bankruptcy. The judge said no, and now NUHW has to pay.
Non-unionized educated healthcare professionals such as RNs or RT(R)s make a lot less money and have lackluster benefits compared to those said professional whom are with a strong member led union.
Also, we are Blue Collar. We work directly with our patients and customers. We aren't hanging out in a cubicle pushing pencils like a real White Collar professional. You can keep that job.
Healthcare providers must stop looking to unions for representation and start representing yourselves. Registered Nurses are college educated and hold a professional license. Stop labeling yourselves with blue collar by joining a union! Good grief you are professionals not blue collar laborers.
