not really a Flemish technique. the under painting is rendered useless by all of the opaque paint piled on top. The Flemish used more varnish than pigment because pigment was expensive and labor intensive to prepare. Compare the end results to a Flemish painting and see the fundamental differences.

@thesonyned he uses black and white to create the dead layer. The black is a prepared black of 2 parts Ivory or Mars Black,1 part Burnt Umber, and 1/8 part Prussian Blue. You can also make a very nice black using just prussian blue and burnt umber.
