http://www.tomquayle.co.uk/lessons.html for lessons with me.

Hi guys - thought I'd upload a recent practice video I shot showing some of the new rhythmic stuff I've been working on with my legato playing. As it's a practice session some of it works and a lot of it doesn't but I thought it might be interesting for some of you guys to see a practice session of mine.

Enjoy!!!

Tom

  • How come you took your octaswitch off your board ?!

  • @TomHappyapril It's still on - I made a load of custom length patch cables that evening so it was off for that. I love it!

  • I'm very curious.. who is your favorite player (any instrument) right now?

  • @jamesteek03 Hmm...tricky...Wayne Krantz has been blowing my mind for over 10 years but if I could sound like anyone it'd be Stefano Di Battista.

  • Tom, can you hurry up with the new lessons and practice sessions please cos I'm dying here man! ;-) Great playing as always by the way.

  • @Axemaniac Very soon - a matter of days I promise!!

  • Hey Tom, question: I'm planning to order a Suhr Modern Custom in the next little while but I'm unsure about which neck profile to get. Right now I just play an Ibanez RG (Wizard II neck) and I've been looking at the Modern Elliptical .780 to .830 with 10"-14" compound radius, but I was wondering how you've found the various Suhr necks compared to your old Ibanez neck?

    Thanks for any words!

  • loving the octoswitch being propped up by train tickets

  • How many years have you been playing? How old are you?

  • Hey Tom, Cool stuff! One seemingly "newer rhythmic-legato concept" I THINK I noticed, was that some of your faster "legato-flurries" seemed to have less of a continuous/linear flow (NOT "scale-linear" as you always seem to keep it more intervallic and harmonically interesting when you improvise, but less "rythmically-linear" if that makes sense?!?) It seemed like you were experimenting with "displacing and overlapping" some of your legato-ideas WITH RESTS/BREATHS! Sort of "Coltrane meets Miles!"

  • lol your rubbish bits sound like my best bits.

  • where exactly are the 'rubbish bits' in here?

  • holy shit. amazing. VERY wayne krantz!

  • I love how you say "a lot of it doesn't work" when I find myself bobbing my head and sporting a huge cheesy grin the whole way through; you truly are a master Tom. Great playing as always. I'm sure there are many people out there, like myself, who are totally inspired by your playing; thanks a lot.

  • i hear no rubbish bits here. just mind blowing bits!

  • Hello Tom! What kind of frets do you have on your Suhr Classic? Great new elements on your playing. Greetings from Finland.
