  • can't say i like what nage or uke is doing in this video. personally i like what i see in watch?v=F3NmaYu2Kvc

  • But what if the uke doesn't want to stand up to receive the secondary throw? Sensei tissier's irimi as demonstrated on the video you mention is beautiful, but there must always be a 'short form' version of technique as well surely?

  • I think this is the hut dojo in london where they train old fashioned ways dangerously hard

  • It is indeed the Hut dojo And yes, we do train hard, but in my many years training there I have only seen a couple of accidents, and they we from solo ukemi practise, not via technique. The ukemi of most of the students from The Hut tends to be very good.

  • would like to see this work against an uke 50% more massive than nage. This would change the equation and make it a bit more interesting... especially if the 50% was wide, not tall. Nage backing up at the beginning of the art might not work quite as well, especially if uke didn't go along for the ride.

  • @jc159p

yes you could just leave them on the floor if you have taken their balance in that manner. However your observation of Nage lifting Uke back up is incorrect. The variation of iriminage is a reaction to "IF" the Uke stands up after you have pushed them down.

  • @prickett233 I don't think that aikikai iriminage that

Tissier performes makes sence. Why would you want o first push uke down into the floor and then lift him up to perform iriminage? If he's down on the ploor, just leave him there instead...

  • if the uke doesn't want to stand up then thats ok, they are already on the ground. however the principle of aikido is to use the attackers energy, so if the uke does not want to stand up they have changed their direction of attack, so as nage you must also change your movement to counter this.

  • couldn't that break the guys neck?

  • The uke was very experienced and more than capable of receiving this technique.

  • Thank you for explanation
