  • Silence speaks volumns. My heart is too heavy to say anything.

  • I hesitated in doing this one because I wanted to be totally respectful. Semper Fidelis.

  • My husband is on that ship. He said that it wasn't anyone on the ship, that there have been a couple of these, for people who have died and want to be be burried at sea.

  • Thank you for your comment. Most veterans qualify for Burial At Sea. It is one of the most solemn ceremonies a Marine or Sailor can be a part of. Families are not allowed on board but are sent pictures or videos of the ceremony. Thank your husband for his service. I was formerly with HMM 261 before it became the 22 MEU. HMM 261 is the ACE of 22nd MEU.

  • Thank you Brother, This comment means alot to me. Semper Fidelis

  • My father, World War Two hero in the British Royal Navy, who died young (48 years old) because of what happened to him in the war, loved the Americans, and particularly the US Navy. He also loved this hymn.

  • We hadd the same ceremony for my father aboard the Kearsarge in 2007 also. Same crew same great care taken to perform a solemn ceremony for our Dad. He was a Navy veteran during WWII. The DVD and flag made a difficult situation must easier to bear. Thank God for our greatest generation.

  • @swflprof That is true sometimes, ON my first ship the family was allowed on board. Has alot to do with the CO

  • i always wanted to be buried at sea - so my body could be eaten by shark and other fish and when they got caught by human they will be eaten and some of my body parts will be inside the human again

  • There is no greater honor to be buried at sea I also would want it that way and to the person who was afraid of being disrespectful to all of the sailors and prior service men and women although I am Navy Blue till the day I depart I live by Semper Fi I love what it means and I wil always be faithful thank you to all who have served and are serving SEMPER FI brothers and sisters.

  • JCBLN, Thanks for your service. My brother was a helicopter sonarman in HS-6. He flew off your ship. He left the Navy in 1964. I believe someday he would like to take that same last journey.

  • I served proudly on the 3rd USS Kearsarge, CVS-33 during the Viet Nam era to decommissioning in 1969. I retired from the Navy some years later. Soon I will return to the sea. Would it not be noteworthy if the fourth generation USS Kearsage returned a third generation USS Kearsarge sailor back to the sea?
