Its all opinion when it comes to that i guess, but the 2.0t has no turbo lag. I own an 07 GTI and it has taken down many vr6 volkswagens. all it took was a small reprogramming =D. Now this new r20 will need no programming to get the potential power. The only thing good about the old r32 was the awd, and even then, it was not suited for that chassis.
@2007TypeR I'm sure it has a lot to do with the current state of the global economy and the need to go smaller/lighter & be more fuel efficient. I suppose it's more cost-efficient for the manufacturers since they can get the same power or more from a smaller block. I'm a current R32 owner though, so I'm biased when I say VR6 all the way! ;D
@2007TypeR I've never driven an R32, just a 2005 GTI 1.8T, and damn I love those turbos, but i have always wanted to drive a R32, and yes, that purr from those things is incredible. One flew past me the other day on the on ramp, and it was so pure.... i do want one REALLY badly... but yes, i was just basing the comparison solely on the BHP.
The 2.0T is a great engine but in comparison to a NA engine it is lifeless. It has no character... the turbo kicks in and it's just like WHOOSH, it pulls hard and then you change... and then the same boring sound of the airbox. I've driven many miles with the 2.0T, Golf, S3, Scirocco etc.. It's all the same. Boring and lifeless. Fast yes and smooth yes but boring.
I would take the R32 V6 engine over the 2.0T, even with less power.
@2007TypeR You obviously havnt driven either of them in high altitude. The 2.0T (because of the turbo) is faster at a high altitude. The 3.2 is less fun up here.
Yes, two kinds of good cars...
