Classic Motorcycle Club Victoria video. In this video, David Langridge interviews Motorcycling Australia's Ross Martin about a 1976 Ducati. Mike Hailwood raced this bike in Australia in 1977.
Motorcycling Australia (MA) is one of Australias largest rider organisations, with more than 26,000 members. For more than 80 years, it has been the governing body of motorcycle sport in Australia. Since 2005, MA has accepted non-racing motorcyclists to its membership in the Riders' Division.
Ross Martin joined MA on 1 September 2003. Prior to working for MA he was the National Customer Services Manager for the Midas Automotive Group. Ross has been involved in motorcycle sport for over 40 years as a rider, official and administrator, and is a keen collector of interesting motorcycles.

  • This bike was also raced in the 1978 Castrol 6 Hour. The bike was owned by Malcolm Bailey of Moreparts Motorcycle Wreckers in Newcastle NSW, and was prepared, as far as I can recall, by Neil Cummins of Moreparts.

At the start of the '78 6 Hour Mike was last or almost last, to get away from the grid as the bike had to be kick started and it was being a bit of a pig. By the time of the Duke's first pit stop Mike was leading, or very close to leading, the 750 class.
