One of the worst film adaptations of a musical ever. Doesn't it feel like we're still watiting for the movie of "Chorus Line"?

@shaneka84 I totally agree with you. She is graceful and delicate. That's the way Donna was. Also extremely talented. And, above all, the real Cassie. She needed a job in '74. And she was reconnecting with Benett. Very difficult for today's Cassies to feel all that stuff...

@TheMaster61964 Yes, he was the original Zach.

I admire how the original Cassie (McKechnie) was a triple threat ... she could dance, sing & act naturally. Many "other" Cassie's can dance but singing & acting is NOT their strong point. McKechnie acts naturally, & is NOT trying hard to be filled with false pseudo emotion. The emotion pours out of her in such an effortless way that it's truly breathtakingly beautiful!

@armandofarras no, it shouldn't be redone yet again, imho. i've seen this show about a dozen times through the years. with each succeeding performance, the show got worse. the problem is that there are too many important roles to fill,,,,and once the originals were gone the soul of the show was gone too.
"hair" has the same problem. they are shows that require the cast to be living in the moment.

How f*****G great is this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!If I could time travel, I would travel back to EVERY openi ng night of000000 a BWAY musical

Is that Robert LuPone as Zach? I think I recognize the voice.

It was said that Donna herself choreographed her own dance for this number, not Michael Bennett. He was going to make alterations and adjustments to it but he "never got around to it." But you're right: when the original choreographer is not there, it loses something for sure. Donna was perfect!

wow! is there any footage of the original west side story cast???????????
-
if anything...it should be done by an unknown singer/dancer. to compliment a musical about a bunch of unknowns

unfortunately that was in the early days of home video(I think VHS was introduced around 1971) and not many people had VCR's and the quality was really bad. I don't think they had any idea in that day that video would take off like it has.
I also have a good idea that it was very expenisve to film in those days and they had crowds coming in so they no use for a record of the show. Alot had a narrow vision of where video was headed.

Isn't it great to see the entire dance, uninterrupted and worked out, instead of that piece of chopped up crap in that awful movie version?

It's even a entirely different song in the movie ["Let Me Dance for You"]. It "seems" that "they" thought it would "improve" the plot-line for some crap-reason?!?! {Wow-- I put quotes around a lot of words!!!}
