Dancing Classrooms Pittsburgh: Colors of the Rainbow Spring 2011 Semi-finals

Fifth graders from Pittsburgh elementary schools compete in the 2011 "Colors of the Rainbow" semi-finals of Dancing Classrooms Pittsburgh, sponsored by Mercy Behavioral Health. The ballroom dancing competition for youth, held on May 7, 2011, was the culmination of 10 weeks of in-school instruction based on the methods of Pierre Dulaine and featured in the films "Mad Hot Ballroom" and "Take the Lead."

Six couples from each of six Pittsburgh Public Schools were chosen from more than 400 students who participated in Dancing Classrooms Pittsburgh in the winter/spring 2011 semester. The young dancing stars performed the Merengue, Foxtrot, Rumba, Tango and Swing.

Four teams advanced to Colors of the Rainbow final competition on May 21, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Pittsburgh, PA

The prevention program of Mercy Behavioral Health, part of the Pittsburgh Mercy Health System, sponsors Dancing Classrooms Pittsburgh.
