"Caprice", Alison Balsom's third album for EMI Classics includes of transcriptions of well-known classics especially written for -- and in many cases by -- Alison herself. One of Alison Balsom's musical ambitions is to widen the repertoire for her instrument, following in the footsteps of the great trumpet legend Maurice Andre. The new album showcases her beautifully pure trumpet sound, and includes popular favourites such as Bellini's Casta Diva, Mozart's 'Queen of the Night' aria, as well as sexy and edgy arrangements of works by Piazzola and de Falla.

  • If you are a trumpet player you have to listen to this twice; the first time to be amazed by her flexibility and accuracy, and the second to really appreciate the expression and musicality.

  • if the camera would freaking stay still!!!!!!

  • @kujhac Damn straight!

  • @eguchi351 You are thinking of the great Rafael Mendez my friend! And he does it while circular breathing AND he's tonguing it!

  • @eguchi351 No but the ever amazing Rafael Mendez did and he does it all while circular breathing!

  • @moltoallegro19 You have your opinion and here's mine. What "left out notes" are you referring to, the double stops? I listened to Alexander Markov perform this piece and transcribing it to trumpet is a definite improvement over his annoying performance which actually grated on my nerves. In fact, a hack saw bouncing off a wood saw would be a good analogy for the "effects". I can listen to it over and over when Alison performs it but not when performed by a violinist.

  • do she play the moto perpetuo?

  • This is just amazing; fantastic expression, very beautiful and (guessing, since I'm a proud violinist and don't know much of the techniques of playing brass) very demanding technically, but this piece really loses something when not played on a violin, and not just the obvious left-out notes and effects. This is, I think, one of those pieces that shouldn't be transcribed.

  • Great ! Cuz Paganini is very hard to play !
