Hobbyking HK500 TT built with all low cost electronics,I wanted to see how cheap I could build one for so I used a Turnigy typhoon 500 motor, Turnigy TGY-930 servos, Hobbyking HK401B gyro, Goteck 9257 tail servo, no name fiber blades, receiver xps nano. I did use a Castle Creation ICE 75 esc though.
It flies just as good as my friends blinged out $800.00 Trex 500.
If you think it is a POS, well good for you, I have seen them both fly and I dont think the Align is worth $550.00 more. Thats just my opinion, if you disagree then I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

  • how have you set the gyro with the gd 9257 servo, digital or analogue..cheers.

  • @somethinextra I had it set to digital but it stopped working after about 6 hours of use. I do not know if it was related or not.

  • Castle Creation ESC???? There goes your savings!!

  • @trexinvert

Ya I know but I was afraid to put a cheap esc in it because I am afraid of it burning out and losing all control.

  • How do you like the 401B gyro? Try flying backwards or tail down full(...if you can), will the gyro hold?

  • @trexinvert

It holds about as good as my gy401 in a tail slide, they both blow out in the end on my helis. I cannot fly backwards at full speed, but it does fine slow backwards.

  • Usually the frecuency of the servo isn't the same as the gyro and the servo get warm and die. If you don't have the info about working frequency of the servo and the gyro to check that it is the same, then check the temperatura after 4 minutes of fly. If it get high, then set the gyro in analog servo mode because the frequency are diferent and the servo will die some.

  • @trexinvert i had that gyro no luck i have a align gp750 for mine

  • you happy with this heli what was your total cost nice video

  • Flies just as good as a real t-rex? How can you tell that by hovering a bit?

The GoTeck 9257 servo's die after very short time (one after 5 minutes on mine), then the tail exploded (screw broke off) and then te belt broke (correct tension). I had all the crappy electronics in mine and changed them for quality Hitec and Savöx stuff.

I would rather buy decent servo's and a cheaper esc than a CC esc and servo's that fail... I never burned up a HK esc (not even the cheapest ones after hours of use).

  • So you got the 401B work okay? That's awesome for less than $20. I have a friend who gave up on it, but I guess he didn't know what he was doing. The align esc is pretty reliable, but went bad after about 3000 flights( x 5.5 min's approx 275hrs or 16500 min).
