Keith Carlock plays so deep in the pocket you can't go any deeper. What a beautiful player he is. He inspires countless drummers and musicians worldwide.

Carlock makes this piece his own, a true natural musician.

What's incredible to me about Carlock is that he is getting better! He's still a young guy too -- I'd put him mid to late 30's. It's not a copy of Gadd's original solo but the both times I saw The Dan live he played it differently. He's made this song his own and just kills it. He can go from killing a solo like he does to playing with a deft touch that makes him an all time great -- and he's just getting started.

I love keith's playing on aja, very reminiscent of gadd's playing on the album, great groove, nice work on the ride and hats

Keith just knocks this one out of the park. His chunky style is perfect for this song. I saw this tour in NYC and he was great!!

I bit into a tasty piece of dinner steak, giggled & pulled my girlfriend's pig tail. She said, "Ha, ha! This reminds me of 1970s schmaltz, Vegas $3.99 all-you-can-eat buffets with shimp cocktail & Frank Sinatra kitsch, after watching a cheap porno flick & smoking a big cigar." I said, "Sissy, don't you feel high-class & sophisticated listening to AJA?" She squeaked a little laugh & said, "ha, ha! You bloody little fool. This is so dated! You make me feel like a hag!" I said, "Travis Barker!"

Great single shot quality. . . real joy to listen to. . . . There is an earlier version with Carlock playing the solo (2003 I think) and he has really grown into this track. Challenge is that you have to play behind the beat for most of the song until you get to the solos, and then you have to play ahead of it. Very tough to do. . . Totally nails it in this performance.
Youtube must have upgraded their servers as there is now an option to watch in 720p. It looks awesome in fullscreen , not choppy in any way if you have a robust connection. I still think this is one of the best captures of the full range that SD gets in their live shows. Carlock gives me chills, he's one of the best drummers playing today. More vids from this show will be posted soon.

where were you seating?

In Row AA of the loge which is the very front of the balcony. Probably the best seats at the Chicago theater for such a large stage band like Steely Gan. Cam was on a short 6 inch tripod.

@chiphotoguy it looks goood from that roow.. I was asking 'cause I'm gonna be in row CC for Lady Gaga's show :) were u on the center? I'm gonna be on 2L

It was center. There are only 3 rows in the Loge, AA, BB, CC. There are no bad seats there as It hangs well over the main floor and you will have an awesome view of the stage. Have a cool time. Bring a camera that can video but be discreet. Just watch the ushers.

Keith is glowing...I'm a bit glad that the camera wasn't stopped down (adjusted) for that.

I set the camera in autoexposure but it was an amazing lightshow by SD that had a very wide range of levels. During Keith;'s solo they just blast him with a strobe of spotlights, hence the "glow". I like it.
