From the 1950s and 60s.
With Teresa's special guest Sonny James.
Teresa was known for fun songs as well as beautiful ballads.
The hula hoop in the 1950s was a plastic hoop that you'd swirl around your waist.
A yoyo would spin up and down on a string attached to your finger.
The ride-a-roo started in England ~1968. It was a rubber ball with ears that you sat on and tried to bounce around. In the US it was called a spacehopper.

Selections:
1) Baby Be My Toy by Teresa. 1955 single. on the Miss Music LP.
2) The Hula Hoop Song by Teresa - 1958 single. on the Heavenly Lover LP.
3) Yo Yo by Sonny James in 1959. Teresa has him going up and down like a yoyo.
4) Ride-a-roo by Teresa on the SSS label in 1968. Backed by A Woman's World.

Baby Be My Toy is cut for length.
The Ride-a-roo picture is from her 1970s album "In London With Oily Rags", Oily Rags being the name of the two musicians who played guitars.
Let us know about your experiences with a ride-a-roo. It's little known now.
(I found some information on it using AOL search)
(If anyone has hula dancing photos I might use them for Hawaiian songs, let me know)

  • Best song about yo yo's that I have ever heard.

  • i remember winning a spacehopper at our local fair in the 70's a big orange thing with a face on my dad won it on the darts stall .............. needless to say when i got it home and tried to inflate it it was full of holes off the darts i was soooooooo disapointed as a 6 yr old kid i never got over the trauma lol

  • @GeoSilverAway mine is 3

  • I've always known it as a spacehopper too in the UK and they have made a bit of a comeback, although they are much smaller than I remember them, ot perhaps I'm bigger. Interestingly "Oily Rags" are better known here as "Chas and Dave" and later had a few hits. Strangely they recorded an album with Oliver Nelson too.
