Here is how I hook up my batteries in a series/parallel arrangement. Very easy to do.

  • When you connect the two batteries in series, how come you only have to connect one positive to one negative? What about the other + and - ? Shouldn't you connect those as well, which would make a cross shape??

    Any advice appriciated, Like the vid.

  • @thamesuser No, you do not need to make a cross shape to connect batteries in series. The other + pole and the other - pole are where you would connect your inverter or another series of batteries.

  • Ok, thanks. I had to draw a few diagrams and I now think I could connect up say 6 or more batteries using two 12V wired together to make 24V and, if i can find them, some straight 24V batteries. Possibly 4 x 6V golf cart batteries. I just needed to picture it with more batteries and of differing varieties connected.

    I hope I can find a charge controller that can deal with this.

    Thanks again for you help

  • just a suggestion....when ever working with any type of electricity.u should always wear rubber soled shoes!

  • i just need some info on solar panel and ah on battery iam new at this i am makin the solar generetoa for less than 300 box like the other video, thats how i found yours iam stuck on the solar panel wich one to buy i only have a 85 ah battery 12v trhinking to buy another but wich panel do i need and how far a 85 ah battery will go for example run 2 0r 3 ligths at nigth sorry if is kinda dumb my Q;

  • lol, vibeslord, if he does that he might have a little problem and blow himself up! I think skippy is right.

  • The 6volt golf cart batteries are deeper cycle than the 12volt, even though the 12volt batteries say they are "deep cycle". They will work fine though, I just used 6volt batteries because they were on sale at Sams Club, and the whole system gives me a little more amp hour capacity than with 12volt batteries. I try to keep my discharge rate to around 30%, makes the batteries last ALOT longer.

  • I think that your thinking is wrong here. The first thing you do is SERIES (+ to -) connect 2-6volt batteries to make 1 bank at 12v. Then, you PARALLEL (+ to +. - to -) connect each bank of 2-6volts batteries to make 1 giant 12volt system. Your wiring advice doesn't make any sense. If you first parallel connect 4-6volt batteries, you still have 6volts, not 12volts. If you then connect the pairs together in series (+ to -), you will have 2 batteries at 12v and 2 at 6v, or an unequal bank.

  • i don't understand why people use 6volt instead of 12volt? currently i have a 105 amp hour 12 volt battery and thinking of adding another in parallel which would give me 210 amp hours of realistically 105 as it's good not to drain more then 50%. comments?

  • You are going to need 5 battery cables to do this first put them in pairs that is two batteries connected in parallel that would give you 12v do the same for the other two then you should have one cable left now you are going to use that cable to connect the pairs of batteries together negative to positive (-to+) now that should give you 12v out of 4 6v batteries!
