In this interview on Canadian television Chris Hedges basically states that American democracy is dead and that only 'a revolution of the people' can restore the USA to democratic values. Since this is extremely unlikely, America will further degenerate, and end up as a semi-fascist corporate state, probably culminating in a right-wing backlash in the form of Nazi-like purges against Muslims, immigrants and other minority groups. And, of course, there will be more endless wars on defenceless nations to boost the arms industry and divert attention from the internal rot. Maybe the Americans should learn from the Egyptians rather than vice versa!
there is no such thing as "functional democracy"

- So you think repealing Glass-Steagall was a mistake, correct? Thanks for your agreement with the Left, and contradicting the Right's "viewpoint"..case settled.

Because many refuse to think outside of the "lesser of two evils at election time" mentality. Today was the first time I heard about some new group trying to form a "viable" third party. The problem? Many of it's members are neocons and Democrats with ties to lobbyists and others. The founder is a multimillionaire.
And people think this is actually reform.

As you watch this, consider these points.
This clip is from Canadian TV. It will never be seen on corporate MSM here.
Hedges worked for twenty years as a foreign correspondent for the NYT. He won a Pulitzer. Not exactly a beginner.
Not a trick question. Who gets consistently more airtime and coverage? Hedges or Hitchens?
Despite everything he's done, millions will still vote for Obama. Why?

He seems so intelligent, then he alleges a vague "racism" by the Tea Party and then attempts to associate Ron Paul with that. Do we look stupid? He says the emergence of the "corporate state" is all "Wall Street's" fault as if it was Wall Street that repealed Glass-Steagall and gave away 23 trillion in taxpayer obligations to foreign banks, started 4 new wars, "legitimized" state murder and torture, created TSA molestation syndrome, all under a "Liberal" President.
Govt can do no wrong? Please

He's a writer. With memory, form follows function. He's constantly using vocabulary every day, because he's a writer. As a result he talks articulately, cogently, succinctly with relative ease because of that.

"It's a democracy, not a republic!" -- This is hardly a revelation. - And technically, we're a "Democratic Republic." The former being a subset of the latter. That's why people talk about the USA as a "democracy" and as a "republic." Someone like Chris Hedges certainly understands this, it's implied.
