When two wizened all-stars discuss the economics of labor, the hits are devastating!
The NCAA college football program is the farm system for the NFL. The professional athletes in the college system fill stadium seats, bring in a fortune in TV revenue, and move the merchandise and concessions. For all their efforts, they receive a rather paltry compensation package, no percentage of profits, and are severely restricted in their commercial opportunities. The system is simply an institutionalized lie masquerading as a wholesome academic enterprise and should be radically changed. The NFL players should take the 2011 lockout and collective bargaining process as an opportunity to work towards protecting the property rights of student athletes from the duplicitous, money-grubbing colleges and the NCAA.
