That settles - I have a cute "little" white montego. It is a 302 auto with a blue interior. I'm doing it up just as you see here.

one of the greatest battles in nascar was between the silver fox and the king, and through watching old races and clips and you tube vids,i have never ever seen anyone race as hard and fearless as david pearson, and when he drove that purolator mercury to victory in daytona in 1976 after him and the king wrecked each other i just thought wow now thats a racing hero right there.amazing stuff, glad to see he was winning in a boss 429 powered mercury, what a great engine.

Every season David ran the full schedule...he won the championship. He only ran 3 full seasons. That is a record which will never be broken. I've seen Petty and Pearson race door to door for many years. My whole childhood. Petty considers him the greatest...and so do I

There is no such thing as an FE series 429, of course it was a boss 429.The Fe series was the 427 which ford ran from 1963 until early 1969. The Boss 429 came into racing at Atlanta in 1969. The FE series however holds a very unusual record, the basic concept of the engine comes from the 352 introduced in 1957. The Ford 427 is the ONLY engine to ever won, Daytona, The 24 Hrs Of Lemans, Top Fuel Funny Car and AA/FD, oh did I mention they did them in the same year, 1967!

wonder whether it's a boss 429...an FE style 429...a 429/460 style 429? wish they would have shown an underhood shot

As a kid in the 70's, I was thrilled to share the same name as The Silver Fox. Still today, when I'm introduced to new folks, some will ask if I'm a racing fan.

David won 11 of 18 races in 1973 with his 71 Mercury. He would have won 12 of 19 races, but there was only 1 race at MIS (which he won) in 1973 due to the Arab oil imbargo. He finished 13th in the point standings in 1973 despite not competing in 10 races.

thats because all these fans now are fair weather and yuppies! the silver fox would whip half of these drivers asses now
While driving for the Wood Brothers for 6 1/2years (72-79) if Pearson had competed in all the races each year rater than just 18 to 20 he'd have easily won at least 4 more championships. He was and is the best driver of all time.
