Article 9 of the Confederate States of America Constitution outlawed buying and selling of slaves . A full two years before Lincoln's emancipation.

The whole thing was started over taxes and then was turned into freeing the slaves.

Also Lincoln only freed the slaves in the Mason Dixon.
