For those who wonder, the fact that he cant open the Big Chest is because he doesn't have the "Right Big Key".
In LP, there two Big Key per dongeon, one for the doors, the other one for the chests.

I could be wrong, but just carefully looking at Link's Sheild, doesn't it look similar to the Deku Shield from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time?
