Volkswagen unveiled today at the Detroit Auto Show the New Compact Coupe Which is a concept car as a hybrid, that is extremely fast and very futuristic in its fuel economy.

The NCC features a 1.4 litre TSI petrol engine that delivers 150 bhp and 177 ft-lb of torque, then combined to an electric motor that delivers 27 hp and a 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG). The result is a fuel consumption of 45 mpg, 0 to 60 mph in 8.1 seconds and a top speed of 141 mph.

The concept is painted in Tungsten Silver Metallic and comes with horizontal line styling with integrated Bi-Xenon headlights − including LED daytime running and turn signal lights, powerfully emphasized curves for the wheel arches, LED taillights, a spoiler lip, a stylized diffuser and 19-inch "Lugano" type alloy wheels.

On the interior Volkswagen added a light-colored (Berry White) leather, a leather-trimmed multifunction sport steering wheel and 8-inch touchscreen for the radio- navigation system.

  • Forget Fuel Economy ...give me that in a VR6, RWD or AWD, include a 6-spd manual transmission and I would think I've died and gone to heaven!

  • This might be a sacrilege but I like this body even better than the A/S5. I like the way the trunk-3/4 fender transition is rendered. Would this be a hatchback or is this a true trunk?

VW/Audi usually gets the interior ergonomics correct and this car looks to be no different. I do wonder why they stylists abandoned the over-sized air-intake grill of the current VW/Audi family but it is tastefully done. How would it look with the Jetta TDI sport grill?

  • looks like a honda to me

  • What's wrong with the "Audishness"

you can get the similar look with less money and better fuel economy. I want this car!

  • Looks good but too audish

  • VIVA la Vdub LOVE IT
