Botanic Railway station, located centrally of NI Railway's route map, is one of four stations on the network which are served the most frequently. With this higher frequency of services, in order to get the most out of my day, Botanic was chosen to film from for a couple of hours or so.
Seen here in this video are stopping services which operate out of Great Victoria Street to City Hospital, Botanic and Belfast Central, where the services split for the Bangor Line, Larne Line and Londonderry Line. One exception is the Cross-Border Dublin Line, which starts from Belfast Central, and passes through Botanic and City Hospital, then bares left to avoid Great Victoria Street, which is a terminous.
In the first shot, we see the Enterprise pausing breifly to allow a service to Great Victoria Street to clear which was running slightly late. This was also a good opportunity for some still shots of the Enterprise on the "S" bend.
Class 201 Locomotives are used on Enterprise Services, while Class 3000 (C3K) and Class 450's operate the local services.
This video is Part 1 of 4.

  • just turned 13 going to get my first train by myself from ballymena to belfast on saturday to meet my friends in town im excited and nervous

  • @alexinhd1 You'll be fine mate, no need to be nervous. Best way to do it (and I always do it this way) is buy your ticket before you board, (if possible). If no ticket issuing facilities are available you can buy one onboard. PLEASE Remember to KEEP YOUR TICKET as BELFAST CENTRAL HAS TICKET INSPECTION BARRIERS. Ask station staff for the train you need & they should tell you which platform & time you require. Good luck with your trip :-)

  • amazing

  • @HSTHoward Cheers. another 3 vids from Ireland ready to be uploaded in due course :)

  • @KBRAILVIDEOS thanks :-)

  • @AnfieldRed10 Yes it's true that the Class 4000s will be replacing them but there'll probably be some still around since not all the Class 4000's will enter service in 2011which means they'll probably still need some of them :)

  • @simpletimes222 yes, NI uses AWS and TPWS. In addition to this, any trains travelling cross border must be equipped with AWS, TPWS (for NI) and CAWS (for RoI): currently 6 C3k units and 6 C4k units will have it. Some Iarnród Éireann units are fitted with AWS and TPWS so they can also substitute for non DeDietrich stock

  • Nice vid. Does NI have safety systems like AWS like the rest of the UK?

  • @mi0jvi

Yes, that's right, they're mostly on the Larne Line. I'm going to go out and film them myself soon, as they're going to disapear from both the Larne branch and NIR altogether. The new Class 4000 trains arrive next year. I read that the Larne line is the first place they'll be in service.

  • That is the train (9003) that got ambushed and smashed

  • @mi0jvi Thanks, will be over there tomorrow.

  • @choirboyfromhell1 No, they're predominantly used on the Larne and Portrush lines
