The Occupy movement has been met with such violent resistance (and eventual marginalization by the media and political elites) because they refused to be roped into "the machine," for lack of a better the term. The Tea Party, if you will recall, began as a protest against corporatism, the bailouts, and corruption in government, but it was successfully overtaken by the political machine of the Republican Party. And so the message was tailored to fit the political ends of the GOP.

They have also threatened economic terrorism and have participated in domestic terrorism. Terrorism by definition is violence used to promote a political agenda.

The occupy movement is funded by George Soros and lead by the unions. They have openly called for the murder of police and continued destruction of private property. They continue to threaten violence to get 'whats rightfully theirs'
Do you call throwing rocks, bricks, stock pilling weapons in public places, maltov cocktails a peaceful 1st amendment assembly?
The occupy movement is against the constitution and is pro communism. Why do all their posters showcase the communist fist?
