I created a playlist of the whole movie (14 videos) here:

"Oedipus the King", 1967 U.K. production directed by Philip Saville. Faithful film adaptation of the Greek tragedy "Oedipus Rex" by Sophocles, based on the translation by Paul Roche.

PART 1 - A plague is haunting Thebes. A crowd of citizens led by the High Priest gathers in front of the royal palace. They come to ask their king Oedipus to save Thebes from the plague, just as in the past he saved the city from the curse of the Sphinx by solving her riddle.

I'm very sorry for the bad video quality (I RECOMMEND YOU WATCH IT IN HIGH QUALITY), but so far this is the only copy I have managed to get my hands on. Fortunately the audio quality is almost always fine, and this makes it possible to fully appreciate Christopher Plummer's terrific delivery of Sophocles's lines.

Just one more warning: try not to be immediately scared by the dreadful opening credits... :)

  • finally someone posted the whole film, thankyou!!!!!!

  • I'm sorry it's a very bad copy. The fact that his face is hardly visible kills me. I don't know if in the U.S.A. this movie occasionally airs on tv, but here in Europe, U.K. included, it is more than rare.
