On February 22nd, it was announced that Darfur rebel group JEM and the Government of Sudan had declared a truce and were working toward a full peace agreement by March 15. While some international observers have lauded the arrangement, GI-NET is not ready to endorse this process unless it includes substantial action to protect civilians.
In the coming months, US representatives will be visiting their home districts. Sign up for a lobbying session at http://www.genocideintervention.net/lobbyday to make our elected representatives keep Darfur peace on the agenda.
@InuThompson
you should get Sudanese citizenship and vote because I think you hate Sudanese government more than you want to help people of Sudan, good luck with voting

And the north must end the violence there if they want the south to vote properly in the elections. I wonder what candidates there are other than Bashir and how much they are allowed to voice there opinions.

I admit that I don't know as much about south Sudan as I do about Darfur, but I wouldn't go so far as to say all that. I don't know all the politics of that conflict but I'd say that the northern dictatorship is just as much to blame. At any rate, they weren't part of that modern state originally and neither was Darfur. They were forced together by the British colonialists. If they don't want to be part of the current Sudan, then they shouldn't be.

southerns Sudan, I am hoping that they will chose to break away. they are nothing but trouble and they will make things worse for their citizen because they are not capable of governing...I do believe southern Sudan /war is the reason the country is not doing too well( dead weight)..

on second thought, forget what I said about the regime finding a replacement. The regime needs to go. A referendum comes up next year to see if South Sudan (who wasnt originally part of the modern state) wants to secede, and I will "support" that. Perhaps Darfur needs independance too. Than North Sudan can do whatever it wants within its borders and leave the rest of us alone. I'll still criticize any nation's human rights abuses though. I don't think we have anything more to discuss.

Bullshit!!!! There's just as many Iraqis who are glad we invaded! Yes sudden removal would be the most painful type of removal and perhaps they should be allowed to sort out a replacement before he is arrested. That would be the ideal thing to do. But the night is darkest before the dawn. Sudan lives in a state of tyrany and lies, Darfur is dieing, and there is rebellion in the south. The Sudanese people are being fed lies about their freedom and glory, and the regime is dangerous PERIOD!!

@InuThompson
Then until you come up with better solution...stop creating bigger divisions and destabilizing the country...Al Bashir is not an angle BUT the country will be in worse position if he got removed abruptly....Learn from Iraq lesson...nowadays Iraqis wish saddam was in charge... Sudanese people need to decide their future and they know what is best for them....PERIOD.

Bullshit!!! I feel for the Plestinians, but Darfur is just as bad off and probably worse. Bush was a fool for invading Iraq, and the question of how to save Darfur is one I take very seriously. I don't want another Iraq, so stop making bullshit assumptions about people. The Sudan regime is dangerous, and Bashir must stand trial.

@InuThompson
I know I don`t matter so do you. Go and help Palestinian children first, they suffered far worse than darfurian. leave Sudan alone for Sudanese people buddy. you are just like G.W.Bush always make thing worse. You want sudan to be another Iraq....you guys take your nose out of it ...

Why dont you mature you RACIST BASTARD!!! Your statements about jews showes your character!! The people of Sudan are in a state of tyrany. Only those who Bashir likes feel free. The Darfurians are being killed off. As a humanitarian, I have an obligation to get involved. Let's just see how liberal you are when the Darfurians get killed off!! I acknowlege the Sudanese right to determine their future, and that is one of the things I fight for. I demand that the people be treated fairly!!
