In my country (Indonesia), the famous scam is they would call you and tell you you've won a huge amount of money or something big (like a car, a trip overseas, etc) based on something you're listed as a member in (usually smt very common like a bank, gym, etc). You'd have to transfer to their bank account a certain amount of money as the tax if you want to be able to take your 'gift'. Many people fell for that as it has the same rule as the lottery.
