  • Which Mass is being sung (Kyrie) ?

  • It is the Kyrie in F for 3 voices by Rory Lucas, who is also the organist at this church.

  • why is there a dog at mass?

  • it is a guide dog for a blind lady.

  • Asperges me, Domine, hyssopo, et mundabor: lavabis me, et super nivem dealbabor. Ps. Miserere mei, Deus, secundum magnam misericordiam tuam.

    V. Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto. Sicut erat in principio et nunc et semper et in saecula saeculorum. Amen. Antiphona. Asperges me, Domine...

    V. Ostende nobis, Domine, misericordiam tuam.

    R. Et salutare tuum da nobis.

    V. Domine, exaudi orationem meam.

    R. Et clamor meus ad te veniat.

    V. Dominus vobiscum.

    R. Et cum spiritu tuo.

  • @rpgabc123 I used the term "mumbled" as you must know that with the older form of the Mass , 'we' , meaning priest and altar boys ; were usually at a greater distance from the congregation than today. And , ...'we' had to hear certain cues so as to know when to carry out special rubrics like kneeling beside the celebrant to lift his chasuble during the elevations

  • @Bartskibeat I'm afraid I've been completely misunderstood We NEVER 'zipped' through the mass in a disrespectful fasion but I may have made it sound that way. I think also that people today aren't aware of the fact that much of the Mass such as the Canon Missae was read silently except for "Nobis qoque peccatoribus". I've been reprimanded needlesly . Pax tecum.

  • @Bartskibeat It is always a shame to have both forms of Mass rushed through, when such actions are undertaken there is great dishonor to Almighty God. The priest does not "mumble" the words, as you say, he says them in a low voice, that is to be directed to Almighty God. The laity can unite their prayers to the prayers of the priest and offer themselves in union with the sacrifice of the Son of God upon the altar. This relaxed attitude is an unfortunate one, especially in a time where we...

  • @Bartskibeat The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is never...absolutely never to be "zipped" through, as you so lightly put. The Holy Mass, whether said according to the traditional form or according to the New Rite (although I prefer the traditional Mass), must always be said reverently, devoutly, and carefully. Two extremes must be avoided, one being overly mechanistic and the other being overly casual. There must always be the genuine middle ground, liturgical actions must always flow smoothly..

  • This is absolute trivia , but having been an altar boy for many years in the old Latin Mass , & having to be able to hear the prayers said by the priest , I could say Mass in Latin if I had to .( I'm not a priest.) Parts of the Mass that were read silently , were , in reality , mumbled so we knew when to get the holy water or incense or lift the chasuble during the elevations. Mass was much more complicated then , but being in Latin was great. 'We' could zip through it real fast on a hot day.

  • they have a pet blessing I have never heard of a dog coming to mass maybe a seeing eye dog but never a dog. We used to have a blind piano player at my church he was really good could play the old time steam organs guitar everything

  • beautiful

  • Another brief explanation : High Mass was preceeded by the ceremony of sprinkling with holy water instead of the 'prayers at the foot of the altar'. Depending on the time of year , one of two hymns accompanied the ceremony - Vidi Aquam or Asperges Me. The priest wore a cope (sort of cape) of the same color of the vestments for that day. After the holy H2O ritual, he'd remove it & put on the usual; chasuble which was laid out ahead of time near the altar.
