After 1988 GM trucks went downhill. Ford had much better front suspension and their diesel engine was A LOT better than GM
I love the 73-87 chevies tho. 88-98s are ok, but I prefer a ford.

I would think that if the glow plugs were fresh, that first one would have fired up even with the snow cranking.

The glow plugs and controller were replaced this spring. It needs the cranking speed, probly because the engine has 205K and has never been touched.
somtimes those fords dont like the cold. But a chevy will start up any day.

It's not a ford or chevy issue. It's the condition of the batteries, glow plugs, and starter.
