I actually am a big of fan that franchise too. But it's interesting, because the ringbearer and his hobbit entourage is child-sized...and he is the one best suited for the task. And before you say, cause I know you will, I'm fully aware of the fact that the fellowship was made up of adult sized heroes. But so are the companions of the Narnia children. Yes, adults are much better heroes...but you underestimate the power of children.

i just finished rereadin HHB, and it goes over how Susan is a "typical grown-up woman", staying at home from the battles...etc, while Lucy is one of the archers. ur soooo right about her character!

I guess that means that you're not a Harry Potter fan either...cause if you are...then you're a major hypocrite. And the reason why children are the heroes is because it's a series of children's books. We are fans of the series because we loved the books as children. Silly person...
I agree with you only partially about the power of children, because you are right. But I have seen and heard stories from around the world about some extraordinary child heroes. However the one point of all of this that both of us must remember is that Narnia and HB is in fact FANTASY, not reality:) These stories make children feel not so unimportant and allow them to dream of being something special. I don't think that's a bad thing. Do you? Thanx for the discussion, spyne666!

ok, children arent mentaly or physicaly equipped to handle the situations there are put in in stories like this. the hobbits are fully grown men, even though they are smaller. not to mention the hobbits dont do too much fighting excluding the random bits.
