Don left at the right time. I hate that damn baby Gene.

what show is this?

"I was more or less defending the development, that I didn't believe it was soapy or improbable."
Then my bad for misconstruing your point, sorry. :-)

I'm totally aware that Don at his core is rather horrible (i.e. a Dick - and yet we still root for him, because he yearns to be better and this show is amazing...I'm getting carried away).
Don't worry, double standards get to me too, but there are none here.

The slipping up I was talking about was with regard to the actions that led to this reveal (forgetting to lock his drawer, leaving the key in his robe), i.e. in terms of how it was written. I was more or less defending the development, that I didn't believe it was soapy or improbable.

What I'm saying is: I still love this show too, but that doesn't mean I can't recognize that Don is an awful, awful husband. But Betty still gets the majority of the heat for not being the perfect picture of maternal affection, while Don can just strand his family for weeks at a time, show up to the house when he feels like it, etc. and no one calls him on it.
Lol, can you tell double standards get to me?

why does every good show has to become a soap?

Come on, Don Draper is too sly to leave information around like this for Betty to find it! Yes, it is a plot twist but Don is just to sophisticated and worldly to let his wife know about his double life!!!
Um, he's slipped up more than "every now and then" with Betty. Lots of people would leave their spouse over cheating once. Don's cheated many, many times with many women, contemplated ditching his family entirely, emotionally and borderline physically abused his wife, condescending to and disregarding her feelings almost every step of the way; he then has the nerve to sweet talk his way back into their home...and then does it all AGAIN! I'd say that goes a little farther than "just being human."

I personally don't have a problem with this. I don't think it'd be realistic to keep Betty in the dark about Dick Whitman forever, nor do I think it unrealistic that Don, like any other human being slips up every now and then (if that's what people want to call it...I don't know). Besides, he was tending to baby Gene.
I still love this show =)
