for a while the presenter read down the chart for a few weeks, and it was awlful, not theme music or chart music to accompany it either

had no idea Sarah Cawood presented it this early (presumably pretty briefly before Ball/Middlemiss/Whiley took hold), as her main run on the show was around 2002-3ish.

I was 7 watching Top of the Pops those were the days on a Friday night and i watched the late-night repeat of this on the following night and because late-night TOTP repeats were introduced after UK Gold dropped the full complete shows of TOTP.

IIRC August 22nd 1997. Was the date for that correct TOTP episode and it had Will Smith at Number 1 with Men in Black.

This was the opening titles to introduce TOTP around Summer 1997 and Spring 1998. instead of the theme tune and also a chart rundown was introduced with the videos by Mark Goodier and a instaurmal song used from the top twenty.
