This incredible performance comes to ITKT by way of Iran. I was fortunate enough to catch the Shams Ensemble on a recent tour of the US in Los Angeles at the Ebel Theater. The group was started by Kaykhosro Pournazeriin 1980 and was the first musician to compose music for the traditional Kurdish lute, tanbour. Their CD 'The Voice of Endearment' is also now available and a wonderful example of the sounds coming from Iran.

  • listen all you if u love rumi, please don't respect him for his birth place, i'm from balkh where rumi was born and he spoke farsi, heritage Tajik. rumi has no nationality not that he chose no nationality to belong to for recognition he made fun of all you ppl that fight over territory.. that's very ironic that how you ppl haven't understood Rumi. he belongs to human race and he called the world as one country. it's ridiculous to waste time, RUMI MY TEACHER SAID, HE'S NOT ABOVE THE DUST.

  • گفتم که روی خوبت از من چرا نهان است

  • Kötü çalıyorlar... Vazife yapar gibi, ruhsuz...

  • Suppose what you are all saying regarding Rumi's birth place is correct! What does that prove??? That Iranians are better than Afghans or vice versa!!!???? Rumi belongs to mankind regardless of where he was born. Grow up and evolve people. The sad thing is that Westerners know and appreciate Rumi more than you ever will be able to do, because you are involved in childish and baseless arguments about his birthplace.

  • @ AfgRep Rumi belongs to a noble family n' he is a pure stock of persian,he born in Balkh it doesnt mean his background was balkh! Westerns calls Iran Persia cz the greeks. The iranians always called their land Iran.Afganistan as U know was part of Great Iran!Nowadays just few population of so called Afganistan r of iranian stock; the mongolian DNA prevails over many afgans actually!

  • keif kardam!!!

  • bah bah, che mahshareh!!!

    Asheghe khaharam hastam!!!Ghorboonet beram djudju!!!

    Ba sepas...delam tange baraye hamatoon!!!

  • What I do not understand is why people use the term "persian" so strickly applying to Iran only. Why is it that there is no mention of the mere TRUTH that Mavlana Rumi (also know as Maulana Jallaludin Balkhi) was born and raised in BALKH! Modern day AFGHANISTAN. He travelled to Iran and then ended up in Turkey while honouring everyone in his path with his beautiful poetry. I don't seem to understand Iran's monopoly over Mavlana Rumi.
