  • This was a pretty good discussion, more chinese/traditional martial artists need to hear this. But are these leg locking techniques from a chinese martial art? This looks like a sanda/sambo hybrid.

  • you are right, a lot o teh leg locks are sambo or BJJ but the roll and take down is from monkey form

  • Hisham is dead right. Most tradditional styles have thousands of techniques, but they did not used to. Prior to 20th century, most styles of karate had 2-3 kata; students would work on each one for 5 years. Then when karate was codified in 1900-1920, they crammed in as much as they possibly could; forgetting "I do not fear the 10,000 moves you've practised once. I fear the one move you've practised 10,000 times."

  • I agree with what you say, The reason why MMA, Muay Thai and boxing being admire is they practice a lot every week. They can train full time. But people who practice traditional chinese martial art usually won't spent full time to practice, no practice, no workout, no reaction. As you mentioned in the previous part, a nice master never teach a person who looks like going to make trouble, and the person who behave good usually can do part time training. Good job, you help to keep traditional arts

  • Leg locks are classical but the way it comes is original...

  • alot of the leg locks are based on form principals,like chamber hands on hip and cross feet. this is a step by step way of a heel hook. First pull the heel into positon and cross your feet over his legs. In my kata practice I noticed that the principles are the most important.

    The techniques come from the principles,without the principles you have nothing.

    The forms are abstract and must be workable in a practical altercation,study hard and you can find these in your forms!

  • chinese martial art have a style called rou shu- from china to japan it becomes ju jitsu , the chinese and the japanese characters are the same. i like his technic on 5.40 sec. really cool!!!
