Well yeah but if it takes 10 drops of bleach to kill you and you take 9 you still get some damage same with every time you smoke if not temporarily.

That's exactly what the papers reveal - not just "argue", they're both grounded in actual scientific studies.

There's lots of stuff where a little bit has no effect - one cigarette doesn't give you emphysema, a drop of bleach isn't going to poison you, a light tap on the head won't give you a concussion. The body is pretty resilient up to a point, and the brain is no different.

Just as a quick thing because I'm ridiculously lazy right now, are the papers seriously arguing that it's ok to drink while pregnant except until a certain point?

It seems kind of counterintitive that there's a magic line where you get FAS but if you drink like a sip less then you're fine.

Like I don't think if it takes 10 shots to get FAS and you drink 9 it's completely ok, it probably still does some damage.

There might be a threshold until the baby is retarded but any amount of alcohol adds to the damage.

And second that's not an excuse for spiking the punch, people aren't expected to get drinks from outside the prom so there's no real alternative outside of leaving prom to get a non-alcoholic drink.

Speaking of "retarded", it would take even more than a shot of vodka - the threshold is around 14 drinks per week to even have a shot. 18 drinks a DAY through the pregnancy still only gives you about a 1/3rd shot of producing a little baby goon.
