In 2005, the Great Central Railway aquired a 4-CIG unit, fresh from its finishing days on the National Network. The GCR replaced its old Buffet Car with an appropriate one and so became a 4-BIG unit.
The Great Central does not have a third rail in which to run the unit so has to run in "push-pull' mode with the National Railway Museum's Class 33 No.D6563 'Hertfordshire Raitours', which is set to become synonymous with it.
Over the weekend of the 4th-5th July, the 4-BIG was officially launched back into service by Helen Ashby from the NRM and Tim Shoveller of East Midlands Trains. The 4-BIG and the Class 33 starred alongside residents Class 25 No.D5185, ex.LMS 8F No.48305 and BR Standard 2 No.78019. The 8F ran driver experience light engine movements throughout the day when it was not on regular passenger services.
I am pleased to announce a new location for me which I have not filmed before and have not been there for a few years, Charnwood Water. It is a good site just outside Loughborough Station in which one can obtain good shots of the trains and one some timetables, trains even stop there to allow clearance in the Station by allowing a train to pass, demonstrating the unique Double Track. This is a place definately going to be used in future videos such as the Summer Gala at the end of july!
Brilliant video. very well done. Your annotation correction about the class 25 being a class 27 a 2.39 is however wrong. You were right first time, it's a class 25

Congratulations on a first class professional video. Picture quality, sound, subtitles and content very enjoyable. I was born and raised in Wigston Magna, and remember the old Rugby Line, Spion Cop LMS station and was an avid trainspotter. Been living in Canada now for 20 years. These postings are so precious. See you at the Mail by Rail Gala on Sat July 25/09. (Visiting my family on holiday)...Well done and thanks.

It was on a driver experience. It did those throughout the weekend. It tells you in the 'information' column. Thanks for the comment!
