Do you think vacuum tube technology could be applied to a Stirling engine? I was thinking about the displacer being enveloped somehow in a vacuum. This in theory would make it more efficient by using less heat. Would it also be possible to transfer the heat created by the friction to be recycled or recouped as fuel? Just a thought.

I was thinking someone could use a hot water panel to make water hot and the hot water would be used to cause the system to work.

The bit on the back is a compressor. It was used to increase gas pressure from the gas works.

I am fascinated by these videos of "Flammenfresser"/Hot AIr engines. But one question.Do they produce any useful power?
Squarerig 6 months ago
@Squarerig The Stirling engine has been sucessfuly used for pumping water, driving low power machines and fans around 1900. I don't see them as the answer to world energy problems though.

Where is the work being done? In the cylinder or in the part underneath?

@tsbrownie The horizontal cylinder is the working pistion which produces the power. The vertical movement drives the displacer.

is it possible to use solar heat as the energy source or does it take open flame?
YoLninYo 2 years ago
This one has an open flame underneeth. Not suitable for solar heat. Its a scale model from 1900s. I don't think they had considered solar then!
