  • He is so emotionally intelligent, and I wish I had discovered mindfulness 30 years ago:)

  • No, this is not an opinion. It is very real but not easy to convince others. We are what our past experiences have made us and we are driven by that programming. Like riding a rogue elephant, we have to gain control or else we are taken where we prefer not to go. I have meditated for some time and I realize that one can only benefit if there is a desire to gain control of an ungoverned mind.

  • I'm not sure if anyone has said this yet, but I absolutely love the background to this video. He is giving this talk not from some high place, some ivory tower, or exalted plane, but right from in the midst of it all. People going about their daily lives, walking here and there, all with their own ends, triumphs, and defeats on their shoulders. It is truly refreshing to see

  • Very good video ! Thank you for sharing .

  • As a Nichiren Buddhist I just want to say: Thank you Jon!

I am on my own way to enlightenment, but we are all Buddhas an we are all connected and we can learn from each other. Thank you for giving me the right approach to manage my eating disorder. It is working because now I am paying much more attention to what I am eating. This is helping me.

  • I feel like stating an opinion. Fuck it.

  • I agree that whether you gain inner peace and a better understanding of self from Zinn/Tole or whomever it makes no difference. Just be glad that you were introduced to them and that they've made an impact to your life. I'm sure that's all they would wish...to make a difference.

  • @PCSKAKU You find all these things in most ancient religions, it's not Zen speciaist per se. And I think that's the very thing he's trying to avoid by not mentioning Zen at all - because that's really not the point. It's correct out of the most known modern religions, zen buddism does offer the most direct contact with the water - or consciousness, however, the consciousness and the wonder of life existed long before zen and will also outlive zen if it ever have to.

  • That's equally scientifically AMAZING as you Mr. John Kabat-Zinn are AMAZING. You changed my life, and I'll always honour you and be grateful and remeber you for that. Thank you for making my life experience beautiful equally as you're changing the emotional climate to the modern society that I'm living in. You truelly are a wonder!

  • @PCSKAKU I don't think it really matters though. It isn't a contest on who said what first. The message is the most important thing. Besides, I am sure he has namechecked ZEN before. Would be surprised if he hadn't.
