The Swiss were the first to use a transport plane for a climbing expedition in the Himalayas. The PC-6 Pilatus Porter provided support for the first successful ascent of Dhaulagiri in 1960. Now two Swiss pilots have embarked in the same adventure flight to the Himalayas. (SF/swissinfo.ch)
I was on way back from school when the Pilatus landed at Tundikhel in the center of Kathmandu. It was a real treat to see the video record of that historic flight after nearly 50 years. It is still a mystery why the Porter landed at the parade ground and not at the airport? I would be grateful if any one, particularly from the Swiss Dhaulagiri expedition, can enlighten me.
