Here's a version of My Generation with a couple of twists.
The first part of the video shows me recording two tracks in GarageBand, one acoustic and one electric. The second part of the video is a voiceless tutorial showing how I played the bass solo. I've included film of my right hand picking patterns.
The acoustic track is in open G (D G D G B E). I play a version of the bass solo using the open tuning and some hybrid (pick + finger picking) riffs. This isn't note-for-note the same as the original, but does use that same G pentatonic scale.
The electric track is in standard tuning. The guitar solo is very simple. I improvise the last phrase, so it's not exactly like the record, but it does use the same G pentatonic scale.
First guitar riff
x x 5 0 x x
x x 3 0 x x
x 3 0 x x x
3 x x x x x
Second guitar solo riff
x x 5 4 3 3
x x 5 5 5 x
x x 5 7 6 x
Third guitar solo riff
x x 5 x x x
x x 5 5 5 x (bend half step)
x x x 3 3 x
Start of fourth guitar solo riff
x x x 4 3 3
x x x x x 6
x x x x x 3
Then I improvise the rest
---
I played the rest of the song to note the chord changes. If my acoustic chord fingerings look strange, remember I'm playing in Open G.
I play the main chord riff like this:
G
5 0 0 x x x
G(F)
3 0 0 x x x
The chorus parts go like this
Open G
x 0 0 0 0 0
C
x 0 2 0 1 0
G7
x 0 3 0 3 0
After the key change to A, it's
A
x 2 2 2 2 2
G
x 0 0 0 0 0
With the chorus in A like this
x 2 2 2 2 2
x 2 4 2 1 2
x 0 5 0 5 0
Then in Bb
x 3 3 3 3 3
x 1 1 1 1 1
Sometimes, I through in the Eb
1 1 x x x x
Finally, the outro is in C
C
x 5 5 5 5 5
Bb
x 3 3 3 3 3
F
1 1 x x x x
or
x 10 10 10 10 10
great rendering. Thank a lot for post it.
