Presentations of Learning, (PoL’s) are an opportunity for students to share key elements of their learning with parents, and bring closure to the semester.PoL’s are an integral part of our expedition curriculum, and serve as a culminating experience for our students, providing an opportunity to develop their skills in reflection, synthesis, and public presentation, and to give the students the opportunity to share their learning with the wider community. While their presentations are based on their work this term, it is not simply a list of their experiences or a summary of their courses. Instead, students are guided and encouraged to create--by building upon expedition experiences-- unique and meaningful presentations. As the semester concludes, students work in Expedition class shifts from new material to preparing for PoL’s. Students use this time to consider the larger connections of their learning, and assemble—from readings and projects and trips—presentations focused on aspects of the material. These presentations are not meant to encompass all learning, but rather to be a culmination of learning; PoL’s are only a taste of the Watershed experience. PoL's are a meaningful and rigorous way for educators to assess student learning, and for students to connect with their wider community.
