Would have liked to have seen Rickson Gracie come out and fight Matt Hughes to try restore the Gracie name! If Royce had better training camp & much harder training - than these girls in the video above, who knows he might have did better against Hughes.

I am tired of the BJJ fan boys crying and making excuses for thier idol getting his ass beat. The fact is it happens. Every fighter and every style has a bad day at the office. Don't lecture people about respecting a legend, why should we. Roycedid not respect the legends that came before them (Funakoshi, Yoshiba, Kano). instead they beat their chest and said they were the badest in the jungle and now it is almost routine to see a Gracie getting their asses handed to them.

My one regret is that Yoshida, Wallid Ishmael, or Matt Hughes didn't take the time to piss on that gi of that steroid using Royce before they stepped over his limp unconcious body. The real bad asses in MMA are much more respectful because they recognize that it is a sport and everyone works hard to get to what ever level they get to in MMA. They also recognize that these guys are trying to make a living.

Royce in the early UFC's fought fat out of shape has beens for the most part who had no idea of what the ground game was. In those matches he would disrespect his opponents by holding onto chokes and submissions long after they would tap. In an interview with Royce after UFC 4 in Blackbelt Magazine Royce was asked if they owed a debt to the Japanese for their Jujitsu and he replied "We owe nothing to the Japanese. Nothing." This arrogant bastard deserves to get his ass beat and disrespected.

If the truth be said the game has passed the Gracies by. I don't want to hear about how Royce in his prime may have faired better the truth is the reason we don't respect him as a legend is because he came on the scene disrespectfully. He challenged Judo Gene Labelle to a match (an old man) Gene responded in an open letter in Black Belt that he accepted the Gracie challenge but wanted to fight someone his age Rellio Gracie. The challange was never accepted.

They shouldn't have let him fight Matt Hughes. If they gave him a softer opponent for his comeback, he might have won, but recognized he couldn't compete anymore or something.
Bottomline UFC 60 made me sick to my stomach.

If Royce fought Hughes back in UFC 1-5 he would have won in minutes with the good ol Triangle. Now Hughes has the same grappling-for-fighting skill set, except Hughes is a freak-of-nature athlete

@celticjordan1 Old? As old as Randy Couture? He was a youngster compaired to Randy. He wasnt old, give me a break. He used his Gi at a time in MMA when no one else had any idea what was going on. Matt took him apart and he would have in his prime as well. Gracie never had a fight with a true MMA champ, with MMA rules.
