Transcript:
In this video you will discover two recent developments that have completely turned the web video world upside down, how M&M's can help your business stand out from the crowd and how you can star in next week's episode.
Welcome to the JT Show - the latest in online video marketing news and some sneaky marketing secrets to help your business get more views, likes, subscribes and sales. I'm JT and let's get on with the news.
The first bit is that the web video world has just gotten more accessible to the average punter. The new iPhone 4S now comes with an amazing HD quality built-in camera. Now what this means is that the technology now exists for phones to have cameras that are better than anything you'll ever need for web video. Check out this video that Benjamin Dowie filmed a couple of days ago on his iPhone 4S. As you can see it is just breathtaking. It's 1080 HD quality, there's image stability and check out the depth of field on this video. I'm just excited because hopefully this new development will open up the floodgates for a whole new generation of web video creators.
The second bit of news that I want to talk about is that YouTube has just teamed up with WeVideo - the cloud computing video editing website. Now to see how a WeVideo works just check out the link below. So now you don't even need to have a powerful desktop computer or editing software all you need to do is just upload the video to the cloud and edit online before uploading it to YouTube. It's easy-to-use and because are leveraging cloud computing it's actually really really fast. On top of that, because you can access anywhere in the world you can collaborate and share with your friends which is great outsourcing or even just editing bit's and pieces while you a holiday. Some of the things that WeVideo allow you to do are your normal editing things like cutting and transitions, but you can also add sound effects, royalty free music and visual effects. YouTube partnering with WeVideo, plus the fact that very soon everyone will have a phone that is more than capable of capturing quality video, now means that the video marketing is even more accessible to the average guy.
And now it's time for the sneaky marketing secret. Say your business sold guitars. Why would I choose to buy from you as opposed to all of the millions of other guitar stores out there? How can you make your business stand out from the crowd? Well the answer is with your USP. So what is a USP? Some people call it the "Unique Selling Proposition," some people call it the "Unique Sales Point." Either way, both mean the same thing. A really good example of a USP was the M&M's tag line of "Melts in your mouth, not in your hand." A more recent example of a USP is the new Toyota Prius. It's a half battery powered car, which means it uses less fuel and is supposedly better for the environment, thereby, distinguishing it from the rest of the cars out there. However, as Kent Austin explains in his video in the link below, it isn't your business or your product that has to be unique (which is kind of impossible these days because of all the competition out there...) it is your offer that must be unique. As he puts it, it is something that your competitors "do not, will not or cannot offer." A good example of this is the McDonald's happy meal. The toy that comes in a Happy Meal is unique to McDonald's because McDonald's has an exclusive joint venture with Disney and all the other movie studioes out there. Which means that the Shrek doll or the Optimus Prime toy that you get in your happy meal is exclusive to Maccas. A contrasting example to this is the Home Brand that you will find at your local supermarket. The USPof the homebrand at your local supermarket is that it is going to be cheaper than any other product on the shelf. That is the unique offer that it presents you.
So now it's time for the question of the week. This week's question is "If you were stuck on a desert island and you could only read one marketing for the rest of your life, what would be and why?" Now your answer's can be serious or absurd, it doesn't really matter, let's just make then as original as we can. Leave your answers in the comments section below or by video response if you like and the answeres that I like most will appear on next week's show.
