The Nature Conservancy purchased Sycan Marsh in 1980 from the ZX Ranch. With the sale was agreement to continue to allow cattle grazing on the Marsh - as had been done since 1920.
Through a variety of progressive management techniques and experiments, there has been an increase in herd vitality and ecosystem health.
Sycan Marsh is a large high-elevation wetland along the "Pacific flyway" critical to migratory bird such as Sandhill crane, Yellow Rail, and Tundra swan.
